Correspondence study is a form of distance education that uses a variety of print and electronic delivery systems, often in combination, to provide educational, well-defined content to learners. Correspondence courses offer one more way for students to work toward their degree regardless of time, location or scheduling obstacles. The primary difference between a correspondence course and most other distance education courses is that correspondence courses typically do not occur within the traditional semester time frame and they are asynchronous. That is, the teaching-learning process does not occur face-to-face or at exactly the same between teacher and learner. Typically students may enroll in a correspondence course at any time of year. This type of enrollment is referred to as rolling enrollment. Students have nine months to complete their coursework and for an additional fee, they may extend their enrollment period for an additional three months. No enrollment may exceed twelve months.

The goal of the Texas State Office of Correspondence Studies is to support academic departments in their endeavors to provide learners more accessibility to courses offered at Texas State. We invite you to explore this site to learn the ways in which the Office of Correspondence Studies accomplishes this and how correspondence study benefits the university community.
