Enrollment Application
Before you enroll
Enrollment in an extension course does not require formal acceptance to Texas State and does not constitute admission to the university. In fact, you need not be enrolled in a college or university to take a course through this office. Courses are open to all those who meet departmental and course prerequisites and Texas Success Initiative Program (TSIP) requirements. With the instructor's permission, you may enroll on a non-credit basis. Tuition cost remains the same.

You may enroll in an extension course by completing the extension enrollment application and submitting it to the Office of Extension Studies. Tuition payment is due at the time you enroll. Call or e-mail to make sure the course you want is available before submitting an application and payment. Depending on the enrollment application submission method you choose, you may pay by money order, cash, credit card (MasterCard, American Express, or VISA), or personal check. Be sure to review the following enrollment requirements before submitting your enrollment application.

Texas State Students
Extension credit does not satisfy residency requirements for degrees offered by Texas State, but it may be counted toward degree requirements with prior approval of the student's dean. Students on active suspension from Texas State are ineligible for extension credit. If enrollment for extension courses will create an academic overload, students must have prior, written approval of their college dean and chair. A maximum of 30 semester hours for Texas State credit may be completed through a combination of correspondence and extension courses. Students are responsible for ascertaining whether or not credit for an extension course will apply to a particular program.

Non-Texas State Students
Students from other institutions who wish to transfer Texas State extension credit to their home institutions are responsible for obtaining prior approval of their home institutions.

Course Prerequisites
Find out if there are any required prerequisites for the course in which you’re planning to enroll. You can check on prerequisites for extension courses by referring to the course web pages, which you can access from the menu on the right. It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not enroll in a course for which you have not met prerequisite requirements.

Texas Success Initiative Program
Texas residents and students seeking credit at any Texas public institution must comply with Texas Success Initiative Program (TSIP) requirements. If you are exempt from TSIP requirements, you can expedite your enrollment by submitting documentation of your exemption with your application. Students attending private institutions may verify their exempt status by submitting a copy of their latest semester transcript or grade report, or a letter of good standing from their university. For more information on Texas Success Initiative guidelines, contact the Texas State Texas Success Initiative Program Office at 512.245.3942.
Enrolling in a Course
Fill out both pages of the Extension Enrollment Application completely and submit it, along with tuition payment, to the Office of Extension Studies by one of the methods below. The completion of this application does not guarantee enrollment in the class.

Note: If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, you will need to download it to open the enrollment application. If you are unable to do so, you may also obtain an enrollment application from the back of our course catalog or contact our office to request one be sent to you. Submit your payment, TSIP exemption certification (if necessary), and academic advisor approvals with your application. You may choose any one of the following options for submitting your application, payment, and accompanying paperwork.

Your application will be checked for completeness upon receipt. Incomplete applications will be returned with a request that the missing information or payment be provided. To avoid any delays, you may want to contact our office to confirm receipt of all necessary paperwork and payment. Once a registration form has been submitted, no changes can be made to the college credit request.

Course Withdrawals & Fee Refunds
If you withdraw from an extension course at any time, there is no record of the course on your official transcript. Refunds are given according to university policy for regular university courses on campus; refer to the Refund Policies and the Refund Schedules from Texas State's General Accounting Office.

Returned Checks
If a check is returned for reasons other than an admitted bank error, you must repay within ten days with a cashier’s check, money order, or credit card. A $25 service fee will be assessed and must be included with payment. You may pay either in person at the cashier’s windows on the first floor of the J.C. Kellam Building, or by mailing the payment to the following address:
