American Sign Language 1410: Beginning American Sign Language I
An introduction to the basic skills in production and comprenhension of American Sign Language (ASL). Includes the manual alphabet and numbers. Develops conversational ability and culturally appropriate behaviors, and exposes students to ASL grammar. Helps students understand Deaf culture.

American Sign Language 1420: Beginning American Sign Language II
Develops receptive and expressive ability, and allows recognition and demonstration of some sophisticated grammatical features of American Sign Language (ASL). Increases fluency and accuracy in spelling and numbers. Provides opportunities for interaction within the deaf community. Communicative competence in ASL ultimately depends upon one's ability to satisfactorily progress through structured activities. Prerequisite: ASL 1410.

Integrates and refines expressive and receptive skills in American Sign Language (ASL), including recognition of sociolinguistic variation. A practice-oriented approached to language acquisition, including the use of multimedia.
