What You Will Learn
Students will have the opportunity to learn Spanish at one of the thirty-two campuses of the Monterrey Tec System. Students can complete the last six units of the Texas State language requirements. Spanish major and minor students may complete six units of language or Mexican literature and culture.
The City
Considered Mexico’s Silicon Valley, Guadalajara is the capital city of the state of Jalisco, and it is also the second most populated city in México. Located in the Western-Pacific region, it is known as La Perla del Occidente ("Pearl of the West") and is considered by some to be the "most Mexican" city. The city is also the birthplace of mariachi music and the charreadas (a type of rodeo). It is the home to one of the most popular soccer teams in Mexico: Chivas Rayadas. Guadalajara is also home of the Hospicio Cabañas, one of the oldest and largest hospital complexes in Latin America, a World Heritage Site. The Hospicio Cabañas’ interior decoration is a series of monumental frescoes by José Clemente Orozco, including one of his finest creations, the allegory of The Man of Fire.
The Campus
Inaugurated in 1991, el Tecnológico de Monterrey-Guadalajara is one of thirty-two campuses throughout the country. Monterrey Tec is a Mexican university known nationally and internationally because of its academic excellence. Located in the “most Mexican” city, Monterrey Tec offers international students the opportunity to immerge in the language and experience Mexican culture at its maximum.
